Justice: Islamist Plot To Attack Fort Dix (Updated)

The US Attorney's office in New Jersey says that a raid yesterday netted six radical Islamists in the Garden State before they had a chance to conduct a terrorist attack. Their target -- Fort Dix (via Hot Air):

Six people were arrested on Monday in connection with an alleged plot to murder soldiers at Fort Dix, the U.S. attorney's office said.

Michael Drewniak, a spokesman for the U.S. Attorney's Office in New Jersey, said the men are from the former Yugoslavia and were planning to "kill as many soldiers as possible." Five of them lived in Cherry Hill, he said.

Drewniak said the six were scheduled to appear in federal court in Camden later Tuesday to face charges of conspiracy to kill U.S. servicemen.

During a secret meeting, the men allegedly attempted to purchase AK-47s from an arms dealer working with the FBI and were arrested in New Jersey after officials learned of the plans, a law enforcement source said.

The FBI has apparently done a good job of tracking this cell. They not only infiltrated their supply system, but they also managed to get video of them planning the attack. The feds and state law enforcement also tracked them to the Poconos, where they went target shooting in preparation for their attack.

Why Fort Dix? It seems a strange target, except for the opportunity in New Jersey. It has been scaled down over the last several years as basic training has moved elsewhere in the base system. It supports the Army Reserve training now, and it is also the home of the largest federal prison in the US -- but it's a low-security prison, and wouldn't hold any terrorists for this cell to free. Besides, attacking an armed fort bristling with military personnel would be the surest way to die quickly in jihad, which may have been the idea.

Obviously, this will be the story to follow today, but it may be a while before more data will be available. The Department of Justice will hold a news conference today at 2:30 pm ET, just before the CQ Radio show for today.

UPDATE: The local Newark paper has more:

Federal investigators last night arrested six men who were planning a heavily-armed armed attack against soldiers at Fort Dix as part of a jihad against America, according to two law enforcement sources. ...

The would-be attackers, ethnic Albanians who had been under surveillance by the FBI for months, practiced by shooting paintball guns and real weapons in a rural area of the Poconos, one source said. They also allegedly watched jihadist videos in which Osama bin Laden urged them toward martyrdom.

"They were prepared to die," said the law enforcement source. "We became increasingly convinced this was for real and these guys were ready to roll."

The video came from the terrorists. In what seems a familiar move among al-Qaeda jihadis, they had videotaped their training as well as angry statements denouncing America. And, in what seems like familiar stupidity among tri-state jihadis, they brought the film to a retail store to get it made into DVDs. This recalls the idiot who tried to get his deposit back on the Ryder rental truck used to blow up the World Trade Center garage in 1993. That allowed the FBI to track down the terrorist cell that executed the attack.

Is this al-Qaeda? It could be, but I'm not sure that true AQ jihadis would be that dumb, at least not twice. I'm also thinking that AQ would not have chosen Fort Dix as a target. It could just be AQ-inspired fanatics who managed to screw up just enough to get caught.

UPDATE II: The White House says that the men had no direct connections to any international terrorist organizations, which makes the suggestion that they were amateurs more credible:

"At least at this point there is no evidence that they received direction from international terror organizations," said White House spokesman Tony Snow. "However their involvement in weapons training, operational surveillance and discussions about killing American military personnel warranted a strong law enforcement response."

The suspects had acquired semi-automatic assault rifles, shotguns and hand guns and performed surveillance on Fort Dix and other U.S. military installations in New Jersey, Delaware and Pennsylvania, the complaint said.

Shawn Mullen notes the similarity to the Miami cell of wannabes. This looks more serious in that they apparently had acquired some of the weapons for the attack and had performed more surveillance, but they showed the same lack of sophistication as the Miami cell when they gave a retail store their jihadist video in January 2006. Still, one should remember that the difference between wannabes and real terrorists is the attack itself -- and the FBI did a good job in both cases to take the cells down before they could make the transition.

How will the MSM refer to the six who were arrested? If the MSM disapproves of the men, we will hear phrases like "terrorists" or "militia". But should the MSM decide that it approves, we will hear phrases like "insurgents" (the highest honor the MSM can bestow upon terrorists), "immigrants" (playing the race/ethnic card), "disenfranchised" (appeals to populism), or even "youths" (the "None of the above" category).

Personally, I am betting on "disenfranchised".

Is this al-Qaeda? It could be, but I'm not sure that true AQ jihadis would be that dumb, at least not twice.

From what I've read, AQ is becoming a wider, looser network. Often times cells forming in it's name while having no official or little contact with them.

I'm guessing this is one of those groups. And I think there are plenty of dumb people in AQs ranks. Just look at Padilla and the shoebomber. These guys weren't exactly recruited on the Harvard Green. I think a lot of these cells consist of people who are, how shall we say it, easily influenced.

And Mwalimu, do you check under your bed for the MSM every night?

Posted by Cousin Dave [TypeKey Profile Page] | May 8, 2007 8:43 AM

Somebody correct me if I'm wrong, but Cherry Hill. is, or at least it used to be, a very high-end community. How is it that the jihadis could afford to live there? Were they getting money from a foreign source?

Posted by William Teach [TypeKey Profile Page] | May 8, 2007 9:16 AM

Actually, Fort Dix is not a bad target. I have an employee that may get redeployed to Iraq shortly, and, if so, he and his unit will spend 2-3 months at Fort Dix training up for their mission.

Posted by RBMN [TypeKey Profile Page] | May 8, 2007 9:28 AM

In an interview that I heard on the subject of terrorist recruitment, sometimes the easiest recruits for "martyrdom missions" are the "black sheep" of a family. People with something to prove, something to make up for. Maybe for stupidity? The "martyr" may be told by their terrorist cell leader that this is how they can make up for all the "stupid" things they've done in life. The problem (for the terrorists) is, these guys are not done being stupid and screwing up. Bad for them. Good for us.

I'm amazed the MSM is even identifying them as islamic -- of course CNN put "Islamic radicals" in quotes, but still ...

I added an excerpt and link to my 2007.05.08 Dem Perfidy // Islamism Delenda Est Roundup.

Ok so, let, me get this straight. Were allowed to go over there and kill like a whole hunk of them every day, but they're not even allowed to come here and try to kill are soldiers?

Newsflash- soldiers is waht are for killing in war's. That's legimate targets.

Posted by NoDonkey [TypeKey Profile Page] | May 8, 2007 10:03 AM

Is this "iraqwarwrong" troll a parody?

He/she can't type, can't spell or both. Grammar is out the window, along with any semblance of a logical, coherent thought. He/she uses punctuation as some sort of random afterthought.

But since he/she/it is consistently anti-American as well as delusional, my conclusion is that he/she/it is a member of the lunatic Democrat base.

Who even wants creatures like this on our side? Al Qaeda is finished if people like this try and help them.

Posted by Theresa, MSgt (ret) [TypeKey Profile Page] | May 8, 2007 11:01 AM

Fort Dix has a huge housing area. Any attack affecting the families would have been a devastating blow there and at McGuire AFB, effectively bringing both bases to a stand still. From my own experience, when the balloon went up, all I initially cared about was getting to my kids and ensuring their safety. Only after that was I capable of focusing on the mission. I'm sure these demented islamists factored that in. Thank God the FBI earned their paychecks this time.

Posted by SwabJockey05 [TypeKey Profile Page] | May 8, 2007 11:32 AM

Wow, even the simple trolls can chant: "soldiers are legit targets". Is there anything that is NOT a legit target for the deranged lunatics? (is that redundant?)

Personally, I hope the lunatics attack military bases. The base I work at is no “Green Zone” but it’s a heck of a lot “harder” than the trolley…or the stadium…or the day care center. I say: “Bring it on, punk ass lunatic!!”

The problem is that not all the lunatics are as stupid as the trolls on this site. They will plan to hit the “soft targets” whenever possible.

"They will plan to hit the “soft targets” whenever possible."

One thing I find interesting about Tenet's new book is his comment that he doesn't know why AQ has not started bombing shopping malls across the nation.

Mr. Tenet expresses puzzlement that, since 2001, Al Qaeda has not sent "suicide bombers to cause chaos in a half-dozen American shopping malls on any given day."

"I do know one thing in my gut,” he writes. “Al Qaeda is here and waiting."

http://news.aol.com/topnews/articles/_a/tenet-assails-white-house-over-iraq/20070427030809990001?cid=842

AQ is known for its patience. That's why it scares me there has not been smaller attacks in the US since 9/11. Seems they are waiting for "the big one." That's why I don't think these guys arrested today are tied to the inner-circle of AQ. They may claim the AQ name, but I don't think they are acting on orders of the group.

Posted by Mikey [TypeKey Profile Page] | May 8, 2007 12:59 PM

The only rational reason I can give, Tom, is that the AQ leadership really doesn't want to do that; they fear for the reaction if a half dozen malls or elementary schools are bombed.

9/11 was glorious for them, but the reaction lost them Afgahnistan. If a half dozen malls were bombed in one day the reaction may send AQ packing from several other lands of jihad with hosts pointing out how unwelcome they have become know that you got the Americans mad at them.

Better a slow bleed on the psyche and force the americans to retreat on their own than really getting them mad!

Pop's not gonna be able to make enough pizzas to pay da' bills. Even with "justice free" to the idiots now in jail; there's still to come "other costs."

And, what you can learn? Just because the pizzaria is called "Super Mario's" ... doesn't mean there's an Italian in sight.

Let alone what's being discussed, today, in New Joisey. Where pizza is a serious business. And, you should at least see the Italians at the counter.

Whatever. I'm glad they were caught.

Drudge has up some excellent links. Including how well-fortified Fort Dix really is. You can only "snake" in. Facing bumps on the road. With gates and inspectors at every one of them.

What the army is saying? It's good for the soldiers to become more "aware."

Which is like telling New York City cops, or Los Angeles police, "to become more aware."

Better for the average citizen to wake up, though.

Oh, do notice that these terrorists were formed here. Curtesy of how the House of Saud took over the "education" of the children of the faithful.

So, you can have a "mom and pop" pizzaria. But the imam is a hostile terrorist trainer and recruiter.

By the way, do you want to know how stupid Tater is? He forgot that in the well-fortified zone of Fort Dix the likelihood his story would "get is" is way slimmer than that Cho dude who had nothing stopping him. And, incompetent campus police.

Not that you have to draw any conclusions. These stories are all about "randomness."

But IF France just turned away from socialism, ya know what? There's hope!

Posted by Carol_Herman [TypeKey Profile Page] | May 8, 2007 1:08 PM

Tom Shipley. I really like your posts.

And, when you ask why are malls haven't been hit; Tenet should'a told ya: THE SAUD'S WON'T PAY FOR IT!

Probably because the "bang for the buck" isn't there. They miscalculated the truck bombing of the World Trade Center in 1993. And, they, themselves, would suffer from counter-attacks. At home. In Riyadh. Where if we had malls going "kaboom," they'd get the same. Since their idiots seem to get their ideas from the media. And, cartoons.

Now, my question. Why didn't Tenet mention Plame?

I do suspect, that the Bush Family Business ALWAYS seeds LIGHTWEIGHTS around them. From Dan Quayle, to all his "lost in the headlights" boobs. Including Tommy Thompson.

There must be something about "cut outs" that wants to own the "cloak of invisibility." Which you get when incompetents are your top slotted "messengers." Like Condi. And, Alberto Gonzales. And, Harriet Miers. There's just too many of them to think it's happen stance. And, not something deliberate.

But Bush lost what he wanted to do. He got stopped within the diplomatic-pants-dancing circles.

Iraq? Will remain a mess. Until someone can bring them back to secular status. Given the size of the oil reserves, that's hardly likely, now.

Just as in russia. From the czars to communism, the people got not one single day of benefits.

By the way, France isn't a bad "measuring stick" to use. It took france 400 years to go from one revolution to another. Napoleon lost because he lost his troops on the battlefield.

And, Chirac ran his show for twelve years, because france really does have a soft underbelly.

Whatever Dubya tried, he'd have been better off herding cats.

He was a dope(and so were the feds) but his handler wasn't. He had the guy go back twice, assuring he'd be caught. In the meantime the kingpen used a fake passport to flee the country for Iraq.

I think the piece that's most puzzling, is HOW do the mosques draw them in?

You'd think, in our universe, vaudeville is dead. And, church attendence isn't what it used to be, either.

So how come the muzzies keep doing their floor kissing, five times a day?

And, ya know what I think? To muslem men, the religion offers them OBEYING goats. And, networking.

Where, here? And, in other Western places. When a man finishes a day's work. And, wants to relax, he goes into a bar, and bends back a few.

So, that's the "competition." For the west? Bartenders. For the "east" and the muslem hordes. Where liquor drinking is forbidden, their religion is a SOCIAL EVENT. Men also get to have business contacts; without which they'd starve in their own neighborhoods.

As to the "Super Mario's Pizzaria owner; I'm sure he turned a blind eye to his son's "shinanigans." I mean what would have sounded the alarm? A lot of those kids are big on owning guns. ANd, shouting out "Allu-fuckbar sucked my big toe."

Now? Oh, boy. A pizzaria he can't even sell on the open market. Do you know why? You think people want their pizzas delivered by terrorists? Isn't it just easier to go to the freezer. Take one out. And, pop it into the oven. Heck, you can even then open up a cold beer.

The people who eschew the alcoholics; but become freaks of their religious beliefs; wowza. What a terrible problem. Ain't gonna get cured with 12-steps, either.

In the HOUSE OF BUSH / THE HOUSE OF SAUD, you're only seeing the TIP OF THE ICEBERG, here.

But the Saud's were getting free visas for terrorists since the mid-1980's.

So? We saw Plame. But we really didn't see motive.

While Tenet is an incompetent; more obvious now, than ever.

But what grows over at the CIA? As James Baker led the Saudi's right in. So they could always access "free visas?" I have no idea.

But I sure wish more people were reading (or listening to the book on tape.) HOUSE OF BUSH / HOUSE OF SAUD. Fine-tooth combs some of this history. All happening while our journalists, slumbered.

(lots of trouble getting a security question up too, this post is through old-style log-in-twice Typekey)

Re: the NJ terrorists, does anybody know how far Fort Dix is from the Jersey Shore? Perhaps they are trying to pre-emptively shut down the whole NJ economy...er, I mean, "keep all those gas-guzzling SUVs off the road and save the environment"....

Posted by Carol_Herman [TypeKey Profile Page] | May 8, 2007 2:36 PM

Kudo's Captain Ed. You're always finding the best of the news events, and running them here for comment.

By the way, I, too, am using Type Key. Gave up on the other stuff. Though there are new flaws, in the mix. I get error messages; but then when I look, my comments are there.

First: Real compliments go to the FBI. They're as silent as cats. But they are on top of the lunatics; who get stopped from running amok.

Here? I think the army wanted the word out that this was attempted. Especially because so many Americans have "pizza delivery" experiences. Not just DORM ROOMS! Where ya gotta hope the campus security does a better job than "up to now."

While this publicity does expose, as I said, the new owners of Italian named pizza businesses. Perhaps we had thought the worst threat to them came from lousy neighborhoods. Where the pizza guys got beaten, shot, and/or killed. For their tip money.

Again, we do live in a wide open, and free, society. But there's a backlash building up, just the same.

Hasn't been laid to rest by the cock and bull call of ROP. Whatever that's supposed to mean. Most Americans KNOW FULL WELL where the organizers get their recruits. And, some are figuring out that since the Saud's fund this stuff; it's probable that there are now some controls in place? Because, backlash hurts.

Yeah. I was surprised that backlash showed up in france. I thought, for sure, the people, there, were gonners. Nope. It's the dopes who are gonna get pressured, now like zits.

But where I hold back? I don't see this, now, as "black and white." It seems Bush went in, and from the time he dropped Chalabi, Wallawi, and Paul Bremer, into the Iraq "mix." More was lost, than gained. But ya can't sponge up the spilled milk.

And, you can't really fan popularity into something the public rejects. Hollywood's got a lot of dogs out there, where they lost money. (Though it's been said the worst fair does well "overseas.") It's still not the market you want to have.

And, the other question gets raised. How safe are our kids at school? Which, again brings back the question of the purse. At this point in time, how stupid are the Saud's?

Posted by Coisty [TypeKey Profile Page] | May 8, 2007 3:47 PM

So 4 of them are ethnic Albanians. You know, the "good Muslims"

Aren't you glad we Westerners bombed Christian Serbia for 79 days on behalf of the ethnic Albanians of Kosovo? I mean, imagine how anti-American they would be if Slick Willie hadn't bombed their Serbian enemies and Dubya did not support Kosovo's independence*. Thank God we showed them we aren't anti-Muslim!

*Of course why would Dubya respect Serbia's borders when he doesn't seem to think his own country should have one with Mexico?

Posted by A Comment [TypeKey Profile Page] | May 8, 2007 4:22 PM

Realistically, many of the soldiers on Fort Dix will either not be armed at any given time or not carrying any live ammunition. After all, it is a training base for the reserve and in the US, so things like live ammunition would be fairly tightly controlled to avoid accidents. As such, the attackers would have a window of opportunity to inflict casualties, how many depends on the particular circumstances, until the MPs get there or live ammunition can be issued. Certainly, they would die once that window passes.

Posted by Carol_Herman [TypeKey Profile Page] | May 8, 2007 4:35 PM

Turkish papa with the pizzaria, had no idea his "unemployable son," was getting support from somewhere. Isn't it great? You can watch them live in denial; while the Whabbi recruitment goes on right under the noses of the parents, colleagues. Friends. And, relatives.

While I've noticed something "odd." A drop-off in the women whose wardrobes are tablecloths. Shopping.

I'm talking Pasadena. I'm talking where once it was COMMON to see muzzy shoppers; it's as if there's a "change" in appearance. If not apparel.

I'll even venture to guess that some women got home and cried. Because the head covering garbage doesn't bring them much; except? Perhaps? A recognition that the American world holds sour looks? That they're not gaining respect on the street? Even though, yes, there are lawyers who keep using our laws to make us "accept" the unacceptable. Heck, it's Bush's weakest argument.

Now, if you go back to Bush #41, you didn't see much argument, then, either. And, then? Gulf War One was proported to be a success. But the "read my lips" guy? Got read well enough to get kicked out of office. No tears for him.

WHile the GOP? By selected this Bush, seems to still be unaware of the "other options." The "could have been's." Where almost any other candidate, in a field, was more popular that the Bush variety.

Had a good run, though.

And, then? James Baker is back. So you know the stakes got higher and higher. And, the Saud's must be pretty disappointed. After all they've spent. And, the Realtor hasn't given them the keys to any new kingdoms.

Which should at least bring up THE MONEY.

Ain't cheap to have a whole load of unemployable "yoots" dreaming about their moment in heaven. With all of them virgins. You'd think you could look at this, somehow, as a business operation. So you'd have inventory control.

Who paid for this kid ro remain "tops" among his friends. Though he has no job. And, his parents are acting clueless? WHO PAYS?

Not bad advice to "follow the money."

While the House of Saud grows exponentially, on the birthing rate of cousins married to cousins. The more the merrier. (As if this didn't once do in the rather rich czar's of russia.) History teaches lessons.

Plus, the kinds of money it takes to recruit the muslem crap doesn't come cheap. Yes. Less than it costs our government to raise a soldier. But look at the difference. We provide everything to our soldiers. While the Saud's? They don't even provide room and board.

Again? Uncle Sam comes along. And, this crap is currently arrested. And, if we're lucky? The man with the pizzaria sees his sales slumping.

And, Americans look at the stuff going on in the terrorists community with growing alarm.

What does that alarm sound like? Today, we can ask the french! And, if the french had their revolution, first? Shows ya, we're not in 1776, anymore. But Europe seems ripe for a learning experience beyond deconstruction. And, beyond the free rein these goons get, because their parents just aren't paying attention.

Are we at war against terror? Nope. But the people are wisening up. Similar thing happened to Lincoln. On the way to Emancepation. He let the people actually lead!

By the way, Olmert in Israel "totters." For the very reason that he's bright enough; but he doesn't trust the citizens TO LEAD.

As to Condi not going to Israel, because Israel has "problems" right now, I can assure you that giving up space isn't gonna be a possibility, there, for James Baker to pull off.

When it comes to the ostentation, it's obvious the Saud's have no taste. When it comes to their men in dresses, routine. Again, you see a short fall when people with that mindset cannot comprehend civilization.

Costs on the other hand? Those get their attention. Even though they have billions to misspend. It's like being in a casino. Even the richest guy hates having a bad night.

The Saud's? Let's hope they have a century full of nightmares, ahead.

That money that went to those kids are still flowing out of those robed wonders. So far? They've escaped the stick of retrobution. Hope it manages to get out of bed, and arrive soon.

al Qaeda is hardly the only Islamofascist terrorist group on the block. Absent proof I find the notion that this group is possibly connected to al-Qaeda because of Padilla and the shoebomber rather weak. I am waiting for the facts.

The true 'group" they belong to may turn out to be the one the MSM and the politically-correct refuse to name: Islam. Trying to squash al Qaeda in that case would be like trying to squash a shadow.

Speaking of the MSM: "Ethnic Albanians" - looks like the MSM has decided upon the race/ethnic card. My bad - I has predicted the class warfare angle of "disenfranchised".

Incidentally, it seems that the NYT wants to do its own data mining - on us. The government spying on terrorists is bad (in MSM-speak that is double plus ungood), while the NYT spying on us is ... not ungood. Care to take a quick peek under your bed Tom?

I read the complaint filed in court and it sounds like these guys planned on Ft. Dix because 1) they thought it had lousy security, and 2) one of the guys used to deliver pizzas there and "knew the place".

Okey dokey. I'm no security expert. But I know what I read! To get into Fort Dix, you meander around a snake like trail. That reduces speed, and traffic. So the ARMED GUY in the booth can look ya over. Every once in a while? THey do a strip search of the incoming car.

I guess, the first best thing to do then, would be to steal the commander's car? Or, perhaps, make a fake doo-dad for your front bumper. Oh. And, fly some flags. Perhaps, the driver could hold a flag outside the car window?

These guys were idiots!

As to not walking around "armed to the teeth," or to think you need ammo "issued" ... only works for those NOT on patrol. And, not THERE, but only in transit. Where, I'll agree. The government accountants label each bullet. There's a list "somewhere."

On the other hand?

Just delivering pizza, I'm sure has led to MANY CRIMES! Rich people in gated communities probably hear of some stupid dude, too drunk to hold his pants up as he answers the door. And, "hello, pizza man." But wait till they come back, sans pizza, t'marra.

Passing banks are also "targets."

Doesn't mean that the bad guys get the advantages.

But what did the mullah pay for?

Again, I keep looking at the money trail. And, I see an unemployed idiot FUNCTIONING without taking moolah from his dad.

Seems "someone" was paing for that "function."

Seems the FBI got a wiff. And, that's how this thing got blown open. Up ahead? The court case. Unless the perps are willing to accept the prosecutor's "deal." Too bad we can't threaten them with a "return ticket to Turkey." That would get their attention! Or Albania. Another arm hole of the world.

I guess, too? What does failures do to these people? They're glued to the news. And, the Internet. The parts are interchangable ... ranting idiots "housed" by Wahabbi imams. With one BLOWN operation ... that's been funded for how many years?

What happens in broad daylight? When people tell poppa he produced a nut, Tatar, not woth spit? And, you tell him this as his business goes down the toilet. It's not quite the way those people do business, ya know?

The kids actually saw themselves deep inside Fort Dix! They didn't see anything else. Just "opportunity." While in prison? They won't become less radicalized muslims. But no virgins. Unless? They make the cut.

What makes this story such a hit, today?

The Saud's and their mad money. I wonder if poppa goes to the imam, and asks for "halp" paying his new found bills?

How dopey were these 6 guys? One good thing is our bases like Ft Dix can step up security to foil any type of attack. Next time it might be someone WITH a brain.

"Better a slow bleed on the psyche and force the americans to retreat on their own than really getting them mad!"

Yes, AND that will allow our allies the Democrats and the media the time to turn it against Bush and win the White House!! Every cloud has a silver lining if you have no scruples about compromising your country's security to win elections!

They wanted to do was "kill as many American soldies as possible" in Fort Dix, New Jersey.

Ironically, in 1999, Fort Dix was used to house Muslim refugees fleeing persecution in Kosovo.

Besides, attacking an armed fort bristling with military personnel would be the surest way to die quickly in jihad

Not true at all I’m afraid. While training you may walk around with your weapon frequently, but live ammo is another story. It is very tightly controlled.

It is issued only at the ranges (a long way from the civilized areas of the post). Every round is accounted for. You get 20 rounds, you fire, you police the brass, and you better have 20 spent shell casings to turn in. “No brass no ammo Sergeant!” is your declaration as you clear the range.

Also most movement outdoors is done in platoon formation – that is 30-40 unarmed soldiers tightly grouped. You could not ask for a better target to quickly and easily inflict a lot of casualties with a single automatic or even semi-automatic weapon. Buses and cattle-cars transport 20-50 soldiers at a time. One RPG – forget about it.

The only ones close by and armed would be MPs, and I’m not even sure they are typically armed.

And getting on base with a pizza delivery truck is a no brainer.

All in all this is a near perfect target. I’d say they could have easily killed a couple of hundred.

If you want to sneak up on a group of trainees, you don't need access to the secured areas. Much of the training goes on in the woods surrounding the fenced-off main base and housing areas.

We have a lot of dirt roads and footpaths coming off of the county roads that take you right into those woods. That's where I go whenever I want to take a walk or a bike ride. I've had to reroute my walks many times on account of finding a training exercise taking place in an area that I had planned to walk thru. Once, I got stuck out there for a couple of hours because I heard guns being fired between the area that I had walked to and the one trail that leads back to my neighborhood.

Something I haven't seen mentioned yet is the connection between our involvement with (former) Yugoslavia and the NJ terrorists. Now, I wouldn't expect MSM outlets to make this connection; they are far too biased, lazy, and just plain intellectually dishonest, but imagine for a minute that some or all of these men were from Iraq. The media in general, and the left-wing blogosphere in particular would be in a feeding frenzy. I follow the situation in the Yugoslavian territories closely as my former military outfit was involved heavily in the bombing campaign from Sept. 1996- Feb. 1997. I am a former member of the 2nd Marine Air Wing's Support Squadron 274 out of Cherry Point, NC and can assure you from the former citizens of that country I've spoken to that it wasn't the smashing success the Clinton administration says it was. Surprising, I know. We won't go into the atrocities of the Muslim groups that went grossly under reported, or the scapegoating and possible assassination of Slobadan Milosevich, or the fact that Christians are still targeted in the region and fleeing in droves, or that Kosovo is now spiraling out of control again with the Russians threatening to intervene. Let's stick to the fact that many Muslim terrorists are using the former Yugoslavia as a back door into Europe and beyond. Let's not hold our breath waiting for someone of "influence" to point this out, but it isn't the first time someone from this region or someone traveling through it has committed terrorism. I hope some fellow free thinkers will push this issue to the forefront where it belongs.
