Rule 1: Drag The Corpse On Over First
If I've learned anything in four years of blogging, don't try to be out in front of the death rumors, especially with the villains of the world. Saddam died a hundred deaths before we caught him alive in his spider hole, and Abu Musab al-Zarqawi almost as many before his demise last year. Osama may or may not be alive, but everyone's avoided speculating on his fate for a while now. Maybe Val at Babalu Blog will get luckier with his "Castro Is Dead" story. We all hope so. I'll wait for the announcement ....
Hobbs Choice
Volunteer Voters is holding its annual "Best of Nashville" on-line polls, and one of the categories is for the best political writer. Our friend Bill Hobbs, now posting at Newsbusters, and he'd like his on-line fans to cast their votes. Drop by and put one in for Bill if you get a chance!
Murtha Getting Backlogged On Apologies
Gary Gross of Let Freedom Ring sees another case collapsing on the Haditha charges. He's called for Murtha to apologize earlier, and adds another reason to the tally.
No Such Thing As 'Moderate' Islam?
Turkish PM Tayyip Erdogan told a television interviewer that he finds the label "moderate Islam" offensive. Shrink Wrapped has a lot more on this, but at least in the same interview Erdogan acknowledged that "radical Islam" exists, and that it's been a catastrophe. Be sure to read the whole post.
MS-NBC Gets Punk'd
Power Line has a great post on a lack of journalistic effort on the part of MS-NBC. In covering the Michael Vick story, they reported on what they thought was Al Sharpton's website proclaiming Vick's innocence. I guess Alex Johnson and two other MS-NBC reporters couldn't bother to read the title bar of the site, which proudly proclaims it as a "parody site".
New Instapundit Podcast On Pharmaceuticals
I just caught this e-mail from Glenn Reynolds about his new podcast with Richard Epstein, the author of Overdose: How Excessive Government Regulation Stifles Pharmaceutical Innovation. Haven't had a chance to listen to it yet, but the topic is important enough to make sure I carve out time for it tomorrow. Get their first and tell me what I'm missing ....
Fed Trying A 'Stealth Easing'?
The Federal Reserve seems to have conducted a quiet campaign to steady markets that started spinning out of control, according to King Banaian at SCSU Scholars. He thinks that the Fed has conducted a "stealth easing". Be sure to read his explanation and follow his lnks.
A Shameless Bit Of Sel-Promotion
Gateway Pundit and Val at Babalu Blog note a crass PR move by Hugo Chavez. Venezuela has responded to Peru's eathquake disaster with food shipments -- and with Hugo's smiling picture on the cans. He also uses the tuna-can label to undermine President Garcia of Peru, who narrowly defeated Chavez' pal Ollanto Humalla, whom the labels extol for his "solidarity" with Chavez.
Tacky beyond belief.
Bush Going After Palestinian Terror Financing?
George Bush's new orders to USAID forces them to review the executive management of all NGOs to ensure that they have no terrorist connections. Carl in Jerusalem says at Israel Matzav that the order specifically intends to target Palestinian front groups for terrorists. Let's hope he's right.
Slow Start!
Yes, I'm off to a slow start today, thanks to some scripting issues, a bad back, and an alarm clock that needs replacing. Bear with me -- I'm ramping up, I promise...
And Now, In Little League Action Last Night ...
I once played in a Little League game where we lost, 30-1, obviously before mercy rules came into being. The only comfort during that shellacking was that 13-year-olds don't have to justify their salaries for being on the field. You have to wonder what the Baltimore Orioles have to feel without that caveat today, after losing 30-3 to the Texas Rangers. Sixteen of the runs came in the last two innings .... (via TMV)
Bush Speech On Iraq
I got a couple of e-mails wondering why I haven't linked to George Bush's speech today. I liked it; I just didn't have much to add. Rush Limbaugh covered it well on his site, and Power Line also links approvingly but has nothing much more to say. Michael Goldfarb notes that the Weekly Standard had made a similar argument regarding Vietnam a year ago.
Rove Fears Me -- No, Really!
Hot Air notes the latest fundraising letter from John Edwards. No longer content to indulge his paranoia when Ann Coulter mentions him, now he wants to indulge it when Karl Rove doesn't. Has any candidate seemed this desperate before now?
Racism Or Hard Truth?
Angela Winters looks at an editorial cartoon and the controvery it has caused in Jacksonville, Florida, especially in the black community. Truth or racism? When rap artists tell young listeners not to cooperate with the police, how much responsibility do they have for the victimization that follows? Read all of the essay at The Moderate Voice.
Support Citizen Journalism
Bill Ardolino at INDC Journal reminds us that there is a reporter shortage on the front lines. The best way to solve that problem? Donate to Public Multimedia, the citizen-journalist organization that supports Bill Roggio, Bill Ardolino, and others. (And a direct donation to Michael Yon would be much appreciated as well.)

I guess they all look the same to Nancy.

Actually its a great move. Up here in Canada we tend to starve our military. Veterans benefits from the US would help recruiting no end. In return we could send lots of snow (a local resource in abundant supply) to Iraq to help your GI's deal with the heat.

How do you get the fact that a picture posted on a website has anything to do with what Pelosi is proposing?
Your logic escapes me.

Who does the DNC have doing thier web pages? Did they OutSource hightech jobs to Canada?
Posted by TierFlyer | June 22, 2007 11:44 AM
Perhaps the once proud Canadian army, reduced now to a very small cog in a very small NATO, is what Nancy and the surrender-o-crats want for our armed forces?
Posted by susieq | June 22, 2007 11:49 AM
Hey, JW, it seems a brain escaped you, along with the logic. When you click "read more", some of the article concerns military benefits (American military, I assume). But, then, using your logic, I might be wrong. I would think if SanFranNan is discussing the American military, her site would post an American soldier. But, that would be logical, and remember logic has escaped you.

Psychologists tell us that children learn things in the direction of general to particular. The child's mom says "that's a doggy" and the child proceeds to call all animals "doggy." If the child matures normally, he naturally acquires the ability to differentiate not just dogs from other animals, but indeed, various breeds of dog.
Liberals seem to be stuck in a retarded stage of development with respect to this foreign and confusing concept of "American Soldier."
Posted by Brian in Calgary | June 22, 2007 12:09 PM
If this Canadian may venture an opinion:
To JW - if a politician can't seem to tell the difference, or doesn't seem to care about the difference, between an American military uniform and a Candian military uniform, then one has to wonder if said politician really knows what (s)he is talking about.
By the way, my second oldest niece, is married to an American serviceman, a veterin of Desert Storm, and who is currently stationed with the US Navy in Japan.

OK troll, how about "The person third in line for the Presidency should have the basic competence to know the difference between a Canadian and US soldier when displaying them on her official web site in an official capacity."
But then again, this IS Nancy Pelosi we're talking about. Competency doesn't begin to enter the equation. Cheap shots at the GOP on her web site, now that's something else.

Maybe if Pelosi actually met with General Petraeus instead of doing her nails instead, she might know what it is a US Army uniform looks like.
"Benefits" is all Democrats have to offer us military members. Democrats undermine our mission, call us incompetent, call us losers, but they support us because they give toss us "benefits", like they toss toddlers tootsie rolls. Gee, thanks grandmommy!
Hey Pelosi, this military member has a great big "benefit" for you, right here, right now. It's about time you got what your worthless Democrat Party has been giving us for decades.
And oh yeah, I didn't join the military for socialized medicine, so Mrs. Pelosi, you can wrap that up in the burqa Assad gave you and shove it up your ugly craw, you old rotten bag of bones.
Can someone please make the Democrat Cartoon Congress go away and replace them with actual human beings, or even better, with actual Americans?
Posted by SouthernRoots | June 22, 2007 12:47 PM
It isn't just a website. It is the OFFICIAL website of the Speaker of the House. Her military hating SanFran staff is clueless and makes her look stupid, though she doesn't need much extra help.
Go to http:\\speaker.gov and wait through the flash "ads" on her home page and you will see the picture.
Posted by TyCaptains | June 22, 2007 1:02 PM
Haha, this is funny.
And yea, she should fire the people in charge of maintaining/creating her web page.
But somehow I doubt Pelosi had anything to do with the image being put up.
BTW - Pelosi DID speak one on one with Petraeus for ~30 minutes, which is better than any single Congress-person got to do.
Posted by Mike M. | June 22, 2007 1:15 PM
ROFL! This is a great catch, Captain! And don't forget that this is the woman who demanded a bigger military plane in order to carry her large family around on junkets, whoops, I mean "fact-finding trips".
Dear Ms. Pelosi, if you should ever happen to find yourself at the firing range, the round comes out of the open end of the long barrel; the part where the big round hole is. And please note that it's absolutely critical that this end should be pointed away from you at all times!
Posted by retire05 | June 22, 2007 1:22 PM
Captain, you better capture a save here. SanFransickoNan has already removed the picture (within the last 3 minutes).
How stupid do you think her staff feels? Oh, well, we all know that birds of a feather flock together.
Posted by wham1000 | June 22, 2007 1:38 PM
Cq talking subjects are getting more futile and spiteful. He who still shows some brilliance in his writings is demonstrating an ever rising political tribalism and rancid ideology. It all but vindicates my recent change from Republican to Independent. Both parties’ substandard results advocate for an urgent political third way.

Well kind of in a pickle..Where the heck are we going to find a picture of a US soldier in her office building?
Frantic dialing from pelosi's office...
" No not Mexican Army..I said..i said.".Cups hand over receiver, " US Army.. right Nancy?"
Uh ha,,yes..Returns to Nancy " listen we can get you a file photo of the Coast Guard..
Would that be something that would interest you" ?
Posted by NoDonkey | June 22, 2007 1:48 PM
"How stupid do you think her staff feels?"
These people didn't get where they are by feeling "stupid" about anything. All that matters is that they care.
And for leftwing one-worlder, a Canadian soldier is pretty much the same as a US soldier - a mindless dupe, who had to join the military because they had no other job prospects.
Somebody to be pitied, used as a political prop and to play political games with.
But to be respected? Forget it. Not happening.
I'd like to see a Republican depict Pelosi as a burqa clad chambermaid to Assad - of coure, that would be accurate, wouldn't it?

Yes, the failure of Pelosi’s website to feature an American Officer rather than a Canadian female Officer is ludicrous. As a native San Franciscan, I am deeply ashamed to be represented by this ghastly individual who, in better days, would have been taken out to be tarred and feathered by the Committee of Vigilance! And my fellow Americans, let us not forget than there was, indeed, the famous Committee of Vigilance in the great City of San Francisco!
And while we are on the subject, let us not forget the absolutely appalling fact that the first Canadian female officer killed in Afghanistan, while supporting U.S. and allied troops, was Captain Nichola Goddard of the Royal Canadian Artillery, killed in the turret of her tank while directing devastating fire against Taliban forces, for which she was decorated. Captain Goddard was a graduate of the Royal Military College (Canada’s West Point). Frankly, as a Korean veteran, I am literally sickened by the thought of a female officer being so killed in combat. Pelosi is a political scumbag and totally beneath contempt.

Maybe Nancy hired the same assistant that helped Katie Couric post her "diary" on the CBSNews website? : )
Hopefully, when Hillary Clinton picks her running mate, Nancy will be in charge of designing Hillary's website and there will be a picture of Duncan Hunter there!
Posted by Adjoran | June 22, 2007 2:12 PM
It's mildly entertaining to notice it, but hardly surprising.
I wonder if Pelosi supports the webmasters even though she's against the website?
If you want to break a REAL news story, find one of Democrats actually demonstrating knowledge of or support (beyond words) for the US military. Now, THAT would be news!
And no, Lieberman doesn't count.
Posted by bobmbx | June 22, 2007 2:18 PM
And no, Lieberman doesn't count
Uh, Lieberman isn't a democrat anymore, so you're safe on that count.
I'll bet the graphics department for Pelosi's website are already several verses into Kumbaya to re-affirm their own value to the cause.
Posted by Mwalimu Daudi | June 22, 2007 2:43 PM
Considering Pelosi's voting record I suppose we should be thankful that she did not put up a picture of an al Qaeda "insurgent" instead of a member of the Canadian military.
At least she got the hemisphere right. For a Democrat, that makes her a super-genius.
Posted by Scott Malensek | June 22, 2007 3:17 PM
3rd in the line of succession....
Either she's responsible for her website or not. If she is, then this is irrefutable evidence that she deserves to have lower polls than W, and if she's not responsible, then what is she responsible for; the pics(no), the words (nah, paid for by PACs etc), then what?
CLASSIC 2008 campaign fodder
Posted by Duane | June 22, 2007 3:18 PM
Mwalimu - you beat me to it .... I was going to suggest that we should award points to Pelosi Galore for at least not showing an AK-47-totin' kafiyeh-wearin' Hamas freedomfighter consulting with his Syrian military doctor on how best to strap on the explosives belt so as to cause the maximum scattering of body parts on his next jaunt to the market.

I thin what our military really needs is a new mission, a new invasion. I think that 10 or 20 million of the rest of us out to join them in that invasion.
We should all go to Washington and free our country from the whores, traitors, and thieves that infest the place.
Posted by ck | June 22, 2007 10:08 PM
Yeah - Pelosi builds her own websites - She goes home every night and blogs about her day's events -
Seriously this is ridiculous - so so so ridiculous
Posted by malclave | June 22, 2007 10:52 PM
I think it was just a simple, honest mistake. The Speaker's staff is unfamiliar with the appearance of the uniform before it has been burned, and probably figured that the uniform in the picture would, after the rally, look like what they're used to seeing.
The really should get a military expert on staff to help with things like this, someone with unquestioned credibility... Jesse Macbeth, maybe?
Posted by Cybrludite | June 23, 2007 3:06 AM
CK,
You seriously mean to tell me that it's not telling when her staff approves something for the front page of her website & doesn't notice the word "CANADA" on the officer's epaulettes? Especially given that the original version of the photo was most likely in much higher resolution that the flash animation. Not to mention that everything these days is focus-grouped and massaged for maximum impact. Just how out of touch do they have to be to overlook the differences between the Canadian & US Army's uniforms? And not field uniforms from the days when both forces wore woodland camouflage on their salad-suits, but a service uniform which for the Canuck officers feature their nation's name right there. These are the people advising the person who is number three in the line of succession. As Mssr. Parker has been known to quip, "With great power comes great responsibilities", including the responsibility to realize that our soldiers probably don't have the names of other nations on their bloody rank insignia!
Posted by docjim505 | June 23, 2007 6:37 AM
Note the difference in expectations on the part of our lefties:
Pelosi, Speaker of the House, can't be expected to be responsible for some trivial detail about a photo on her website. Some underling screwed up, and it's not her fault.
Bush, on the other hand, is PERSONALLY responsible for EVERYTHING that happens on planet Earth. Remember Abu Ghraib?
Posted by James D. Huggins | June 25, 2007 10:30 AM
Speaker Pelosi clearly supports the military...just not OUR military...
Canada will do, she can support the wily Canuck...that's where our brave deserters go to hide.
