There Goes The Undefeated Season
Notre Dame managed to get its first loss out of the way as soon as possible -- and as badly as possible. Georgia Tech came to South Bend and stomped the Irish, 33-3, in the worst home opener loss in school history. The offense fumbled twice and allowed seven sacks on Evan Sharpley, who must have longed to have Brady Quinn back on the field instead. If Charlie Weis doesn't turn this debacle around fast, he may want to start asking Ty Willingham for some career counseling ....
Would Early Primaries Allow More Donations?
Jim Geraghty at The Campaign Spot believes that candidates will benefit if primaries and caucuses get pushed into 2007. A loophole in campaign finance regulation appears to allow an extra $2,300 per donor for candidates if those elections are held this year. Be sure to check out Jim's analysis, and the surprising candidate that may benefit the most.
When Tom Met Jeralyn
One of the interesting aspects of politics is finding out that opponents are people, too. Jeralyn Merritt of TalkLeft met Rep. Tom Tancredo backstage at NBC's studios, and found him more likable than she had anticipated. Perhaps it was their mutual interest in Dog, The Bounty Hunter ...
Joe Lieberman A Right-Wing Nut?
That's what CAIR says, according to Joe Kaufman. He has a link to a CAIR official's blog post that calls Lieberman, along with John Bolton, former CIA director James Woolsey, and the Heritage Foundation's Peter Brookes as "extremists". Affad Shaikh also calls Dick Cheney a "fat bastard of a liar," apparently not meant as a pop-culture reference to the Austin Powers movies. (via Let Freedom Ring)
Broadband Homelessness
The Japanese have made homelessness more efficient, and more Net-friendly, too. Their Internet cafés have become homeless shelters for the struggling manual-labor sector. The problem has grown into such a problem that government intervention will shortly become a political priority.
Found My Law Firm
Power Line links twice to this story regarding an attorney at Faegre & Benson who refused to become a victim and helped capture a very dangerous man. Keith Radtke is a partner in the firm as is Power Line's John Hinderaker. Radtke is listed in satisfactory condition after getting shot in the back, but that didn't keep him from locking up his attacker in a wrestling grip until police could arrive. I don't know about you, but that's the kind of man I'd want as my counsel ....
Don't Click That YouTube E-mail

Rick Moran Escapes The Floods
Rick Moran has kept us up to date on his travails along the Algonquin River. Yesterday, the police showed up to get him evacuated before the river flooded his home -- but today, Rick finds that a minor miracle has taken place, and that his house survives ... at least for now. Keep Rick in your prayers, and keep checking in at Right Wing Nut House for updates.
Rule 1: Drag The Corpse On Over First
If I've learned anything in four years of blogging, don't try to be out in front of the death rumors, especially with the villains of the world. Saddam died a hundred deaths before we caught him alive in his spider hole, and Abu Musab al-Zarqawi almost as many before his demise last year. Osama may or may not be alive, but everyone's avoided speculating on his fate for a while now. Maybe Val at Babalu Blog will get luckier with his "Castro Is Dead" story. We all hope so. I'll wait for the announcement ....

No Such Thing As 'Moderate' Islam?
Turkish PM Tayyip Erdogan told a television interviewer that he finds the label "moderate Islam" offensive. Shrink Wrapped has a lot more on this, but at least in the same interview Erdogan acknowledged that "radical Islam" exists, and that it's been a catastrophe. Be sure to read the whole post.
MS-NBC Gets Punk'd
Power Line has a great post on a lack of journalistic effort on the part of MS-NBC. In covering the Michael Vick story, they reported on what they thought was Al Sharpton's website proclaiming Vick's innocence. I guess Alex Johnson and two other MS-NBC reporters couldn't bother to read the title bar of the site, which proudly proclaims it as a "parody site".
New Instapundit Podcast On Pharmaceuticals
I just caught this e-mail from Glenn Reynolds about his new podcast with Richard Epstein, the author of Overdose: How Excessive Government Regulation Stifles Pharmaceutical Innovation. Haven't had a chance to listen to it yet, but the topic is important enough to make sure I carve out time for it tomorrow. Get their first and tell me what I'm missing ....

if they went through a bail bondsman then he will be dragged in by the scruff of the neck in reasonably short order.
if they did it out of "discretionary funds" thats another thing although i can only think of a few non governmental outfits that can put up the total amount easily.
just think. its a win win for the court. twenty minutes of court time, two million in fees. next time the guy shows up he immediately goes into cuffs, legirons and belly band with a very large deputy on the other end of a ten foot chain.

Who'd have predicted this? Well, let's see... the guy was on the lam for how many years? Then the judge gave him bail and allowed him to keep his passport? Duh!
Mr. Hsu is either safely on territory controlled by the PRC, or quietly decomposing like other former embarrassments to the Clintons... take your choice.

I'm shocked.
Shocked I tell you.
Posted by RD | September 5, 2007 12:42 PM
Why did he not immediately go into cuffs, leg irons and belly band this time? I think the Judge was thrown off course by the fact that Hsu gave himself up so quickly instead of running. And I think the reason that Hsu gave himself up so quickly was for safety. He was thrown off-guard by the arrest and he didn't know how to proceed. After a few hours in jail his rescuers showed up and showed him the way and he has now been spirited away to a place so safe no one will ever find him and question him-in fact, his fears were maybe well founded.
Posted by rbj | September 5, 2007 12:44 PM
It's all a misunderstanding. He supports Democrats so he was under the impression that he didn't have to go to jail.
I just wonder if the judge who granted bail was "paid a visit" to stress how good it would be to grant bail.
Posted by Gmax | September 5, 2007 12:44 PM
Nah now in about 60 days time he can go back to doing what he is good at funneling foreign government funds to the election campaigns of Democrats. No one will notice him, at least they did not last time. Might have to wear a wig this time though for the campaign photos...

Haha,
We know exactly where Mr. Hsu is. He didn't leave the country without having his passport passed through the electronic readers that we maintain at all ports of egress from the United States.
He's gone, and you'll never see him again.
Pooooooof.

Per my comment last week about the idiot judge lowering bail for a known criminal who has already evaded incarceration ... the judge is probably complicit. Not much different from L.A. judges who get Paris Hilton out of jail early or actors gone wild out of the slammer just in time for filming their next movie to begin.
If Hsu isn't found suffering from Arkancide in Fort Marcy Park he'll probably soon be seen waving from the safety of his handlers in Beijing.
Posted by RD | September 5, 2007 1:21 PM
failed to appear for a bail reduction hearing? That means he must have paid the full $2,000,000 bail. He must have had no trouble raising it-hope he didn't use his parents' or his wife's and children's homes although there is no honor among thieves is there? Captain Ed is right-we need to know where the money came from and who posted it and why. And it needs to be forfeited without mercy.

I doubt that we will ever see or hear of Norman Hsu again. With him safely out of the country or swimming with the fishes, the media will drop this like a hot potato, and yet another Clinton fund raising scandal will be ignored.
You would think from a ratings perspective, the MSM would play this up to carry Obama for a few rounds to make things interesting.

perhaps an investigation of the judges' conduct might bear fruit. and if nothing comes up it might cause other judges to be far more careful in their work in the future.

Maybe that moron isn't a moron. Clearly there are a lot of people who would like Hsu to disappear permanently. In addition to a lot of Democrats almost certainly some people in China and maybe a judge or two.

He's either on a slow boat to China...or sleeping with the fishes.
Either way, I agree with the people who say that you'll probably never see Norman Hsu again.
Two things got "disappeared" it seems: Hsu, and the judicial career of the judge who granted bail. I'm no legal eagle, but shouldn't failure to appear at a bail hearing trigger something approaching a manhunt?

Okey dokey. He hopped on a plane, and left the country BECAUSE HE DOESN'T THINK HILLARY IS ELECTABLE.
Huh?
Well, he'd be pardoned. SO, when he measured out future possibilities; he didn't drop his luck for a Hillary win. And, a presidential pardon, to follow.
That he left? Are you surprised? Marc Rich did, too.
SO, no surprises for me.
While Drudge had up, yesterday, "more news from DC" about Larry Craig. Who is not in DC, now. But who is threatening to come back; and to withdraw his resignation letter. And, that "compass of moral authority, Arlen SPecter," is goading him on. (Why not? The lawyers see the holes in the charges. Our Supreme Court midgets; all five of them, gave the boot to Texas sodomy laws) ... and just like Scalia said all perversions will now occur out in the open. And, the people won't have the tools to clean anything up. "Thank you, Souter." "Thank you, Anthony Kennedy." (Did you know Kennedy's pissed off he wasn't chosen Chief?)
What a mess.
Just in case you think you have to look elsewhere; we've got messes galore coming from our elected officials. And, then those privileged few who get nominated to top slots. See? It ain't just the pentagon and State that's all messed up.
Can it be fixed?
Well, won't that depend on whom we elect in 2008?
Hopefully, not Mitt Romney. I can't stand another piece of Massa2shits; even if he's photogenic. But that's just me. And, I'm just sharing my opinion.
Posted by viking01 | September 5, 2007 1:48 PM
I dunno. The judge who granted bail may have earned an appointment to the 9th Circus Court of Appeals for wanton disregard to his oath of office.
2 million is peanuts considering the billions in influence Hsu appears to have purchased. With AG and former AG Cuomo and Spitzer on the receiving end they probably knew which judge would willingly fix the bail problem. Remember that Nifong wouldn't have been able to work the system for as many months were he unaware of which ones in the legal system were willing to play along.
If Hsu isn't dead he's probably chatting with Mark Rich about how easily junk justice can be bought.

That's not true at all. Of use to Mr. Hsu, the entire California border with Mexico let's people walk straight across to Mexico without stopping. There is absolutely no record of who leaves the US via Chula Vista. You can also walk back into the US with only a driver's license. I did it last month.

Posted by flenser | September 5, 2007 2:45 PM
Fifteen years later, the long arm of the law finally caught up with Hsu after funneling over $1.5 million to Democrats around the country.
My understanding is that the WSJ uncovered this and prompted the law to wake up and pay attention.
The Justice Dept does not display much interest in pursuing corruption unless the people involved have the letter "R" after their name.

This is serious stuff, and I do hope they catch him.
Ok, it's not as serious as Republican Christian Senators trying to blow guys in a public toilet stall, or missing billions of dollars that was suppose to go to Iraq infrastructure, or missing weapons that have now fallen into the hands of our enemies, or the continuing failure of the Iraqi "government" to govern, so they can stand up while we stand down, or only meeting 3 of the 18 benchmarks we gave them....
But, anything to distract, huh? Good luck. I'm sure Americans all over are forgetting about those little troubles in order to focus more on this Chinese Fundraiser dude.
That's the ticket.

Timpundit,
Considering the Clintons criminal past with Asian campaign contributions and their reckless disregard for national security by selling guided missile technology to the Chinese, this is a big deal. The last thing the country needs is another Clinton in the White House bought and paid for by the Chinese.
In exchange for campaign contributions, the Clintons sold some our most sensitive missile technology to a potential enemy. In exchange for campaign contributions, the Clintons sold pardons for major league criminals including tax cheats, drug dealers and other assorted scum. In exchange for campaign contributions, the Clintons rented out the Lincoln bedroom. Do you see a pattern here?

This guy is dirty--the question is finding out from what. We also know that Hillary is lying, the question is if it's just a white lie. In today's world, as the LA Times mentioned, it takes five minutes to do a background check.
Also of note is the coincidence previously mentioned that the ex head of Loral, connected with the technology transfer that Bill Clinton approved against the wishes of several government agencies including the Defense Department, is also on the same board as Hsu at that school in New York headed by ex Senator Kerrey. Occam's razor"...

Now that Hsu has jumped bail look for Hillary to appear in her pink dress very soon. It works every time.
Posted by Proud Kaffir | September 5, 2007 4:48 PM
Why are no Republicans holding press conferences and demanding an investigation? How did this guy elude justice for so long and then elude justice once again? If all his companies appear to be shell companies, where did all the money he donated to the Dems come from and what exactly did it buy? Did his work for the Dems, funneling dirty money, earn him his freedom?
I can't believe the GOP isn't making an issue of this? Where is the Justice Dept.? Has the GOP gone completely brain-dead, only obsessed with what people are doing in bathroom stalls?
Think what the Dems would be doing if this was a GOP fundraiser who defrauded investnors of a million dollars and then funneled momey into party coffers, all while on the lam from the law. And now he disappears.
Does the GOP have a pulse?

I wondered when or even if any of our resident liberals would show up, or if they were too embarrassed by this to comment. I should have had more faith! timpundit came in and, in a surprise move... bashed Bush and the war in Iraq.
Wow.
I've written before that democrats are degenerates with no moral values at all, and my point gets proven again and again. I think that Hillary could be caught on video grilling a puppy (using charcoal instead of pro-pane, no less!) and the reaction of the average dem would be:
"Everybody does it, and Bush lied!"
As for Hsu, it'll be interesting to see if anybody EVER sees him again. It'll also be interesting to see if the DoJ rouses itself long enough to wonder whatever happened to him and the money.
Posted by Proud kaffir | September 5, 2007 5:16 PM
So what did the California court do? Let him out on bail again -- and Hsu has apparently skipped again, to no one's surprise but the moron who granted bail in the first place.

psssst....Senator O'Bama? Beware of Secret Service agents with Arkansas accents.
One last thing. Could it be that since I have seen no conspiracy theories over at Kos, DU or HuffPo that Cheney or Rove have Hsu tied to a tree somewhere, that indeed most of the Leftists DO believe that Hillary pressed the "Easy" button on this one?

Hatch-Hsu was a sneeze away from becoming a major pain in the Hildabeasts' side. Further investigations would have certainly continued. My bet is we will never see Hsu again, which will put the Paws under the microscope. And the Chinese connection still smells from the first go-around.
Of course this would be front page news if this were a Republican candidate, and you'd have the makings for a watergate2.......C'mon Woodward, get some cahones and make the Post famous again.

Those Dems who gladdly took Hsu's money, are in the process of trying to look like they were innocent in accepting dirty money from a known fraud and fugitive.
Of course, we will never be able to prove the money was actually donated; and if they did, I'll bet that the 'charity' will turn right around and funnel it back to the same Dems via a PAC or 527.

Proud Kaffir: I had thought that Hillary's first Supreme Court nomination would be one of her brothers (since she is shameless) or maybe Spitzer for appointing her husband as her NY Senate replacement but you're right...she owes this judge big time and he seems to be at the level of her standards (ethically challenged,IMO)

Of course the California court let him go, he's a democrat supporter. If he had been a republican supporter who was caught, he'd be held without bail and every Democrat would be claiming that this is all a part of the republican's "Culture of Corruption."
As to where he is now, he's just laying low in Canada for a few months until he can arrange a flight to Italy.

A time to remember that the BAIL BONDING business is such a good one; that every phone book I've ever gotten has this "set out" with the bail bondsman advertising his business.
The bondsman who got Hsu "outta jail," won't go broke, either.
ANd, with Larry Craig "not quite resigned," but only having offered his "INTENT" to resign; has also shown us that you can't even commit a crime to get arrested; when you go into a known homosexual hang-out toilet; and you DO THE ROUTINE! Sure. Without words. Like a deaf person.
And, ya know what? We're watching a "run" on "yes, you can, too, get away with it!"
Of course, my sympathy meter's busted.
But it's been broken for awhile.
And, over at Fred Thompson's site? GOOD LUCK TO YA. Cause all I saw was his wanting me to commit. Give him money.
