Support The Al-Dura Petition
Roger Simon at Pajamas Media is circulating a petition to demand accountability for the discredited al-Dura report from France's Channel 2. This is, as Roger calls it, the "Father of all Fauxtography," and C-2 has never acknowledged its fault in airing the supposed murder of a Palestinian child. He wants C-2 to show all of the unedited footage of the incident in order to show that C-2 faked the murder. If they're resisting the demand, I'd say they have something to hide ....
There Goes The Undefeated Season
Notre Dame managed to get its first loss out of the way as soon as possible -- and as badly as possible. Georgia Tech came to South Bend and stomped the Irish, 33-3, in the worst home opener loss in school history. The offense fumbled twice and allowed seven sacks on Evan Sharpley, who must have longed to have Brady Quinn back on the field instead. If Charlie Weis doesn't turn this debacle around fast, he may want to start asking Ty Willingham for some career counseling ....
Would Early Primaries Allow More Donations?
Jim Geraghty at The Campaign Spot believes that candidates will benefit if primaries and caucuses get pushed into 2007. A loophole in campaign finance regulation appears to allow an extra $2,300 per donor for candidates if those elections are held this year. Be sure to check out Jim's analysis, and the surprising candidate that may benefit the most.
When Tom Met Jeralyn
One of the interesting aspects of politics is finding out that opponents are people, too. Jeralyn Merritt of TalkLeft met Rep. Tom Tancredo backstage at NBC's studios, and found him more likable than she had anticipated. Perhaps it was their mutual interest in Dog, The Bounty Hunter ...
Joe Lieberman A Right-Wing Nut?
That's what CAIR says, according to Joe Kaufman. He has a link to a CAIR official's blog post that calls Lieberman, along with John Bolton, former CIA director James Woolsey, and the Heritage Foundation's Peter Brookes as "extremists". Affad Shaikh also calls Dick Cheney a "fat bastard of a liar," apparently not meant as a pop-culture reference to the Austin Powers movies. (via Let Freedom Ring)
Broadband Homelessness
The Japanese have made homelessness more efficient, and more Net-friendly, too. Their Internet cafés have become homeless shelters for the struggling manual-labor sector. The problem has grown into such a problem that government intervention will shortly become a political priority.
Found My Law Firm
Power Line links twice to this story regarding an attorney at Faegre & Benson who refused to become a victim and helped capture a very dangerous man. Keith Radtke is a partner in the firm as is Power Line's John Hinderaker. Radtke is listed in satisfactory condition after getting shot in the back, but that didn't keep him from locking up his attacker in a wrestling grip until police could arrive. I don't know about you, but that's the kind of man I'd want as my counsel ....
Don't Click That YouTube E-mail
The latest in spam seems to be redirections from YouTube links in e-mail to IP addresses without domain names. They attempt to entice people by making it seem that they have been inadvertently YouTubed. I'm sure most people can see through this scam, but just in case, you've been warned ....
Rick Moran Escapes The Floods
Rick Moran has kept us up to date on his travails along the Algonquin River. Yesterday, the police showed up to get him evacuated before the river flooded his home -- but today, Rick finds that a minor miracle has taken place, and that his house survives ... at least for now. Keep Rick in your prayers, and keep checking in at Right Wing Nut House for updates.
Rule 1: Drag The Corpse On Over First
If I've learned anything in four years of blogging, don't try to be out in front of the death rumors, especially with the villains of the world. Saddam died a hundred deaths before we caught him alive in his spider hole, and Abu Musab al-Zarqawi almost as many before his demise last year. Osama may or may not be alive, but everyone's avoided speculating on his fate for a while now. Maybe Val at Babalu Blog will get luckier with his "Castro Is Dead" story. We all hope so. I'll wait for the announcement ....
Hobbs Choice
Volunteer Voters is holding its annual "Best of Nashville" on-line polls, and one of the categories is for the best political writer. Our friend Bill Hobbs, now posting at Newsbusters, and he'd like his on-line fans to cast their votes. Drop by and put one in for Bill if you get a chance!
Murtha Getting Backlogged On Apologies
Gary Gross of Let Freedom Ring sees another case collapsing on the Haditha charges. He's called for Murtha to apologize earlier, and adds another reason to the tally.
No Such Thing As 'Moderate' Islam?
Turkish PM Tayyip Erdogan told a television interviewer that he finds the label "moderate Islam" offensive. Shrink Wrapped has a lot more on this, but at least in the same interview Erdogan acknowledged that "radical Islam" exists, and that it's been a catastrophe. Be sure to read the whole post.
MS-NBC Gets Punk'd
Power Line has a great post on a lack of journalistic effort on the part of MS-NBC. In covering the Michael Vick story, they reported on what they thought was Al Sharpton's website proclaiming Vick's innocence. I guess Alex Johnson and two other MS-NBC reporters couldn't bother to read the title bar of the site, which proudly proclaims it as a "parody site".
New Instapundit Podcast On Pharmaceuticals
I just caught this e-mail from Glenn Reynolds about his new podcast with Richard Epstein, the author of Overdose: How Excessive Government Regulation Stifles Pharmaceutical Innovation. Haven't had a chance to listen to it yet, but the topic is important enough to make sure I carve out time for it tomorrow. Get their first and tell me what I'm missing ....

The BOnkeys, you know, are working hard to undermine Patraeus' September 15th, report; that I believe the President delivers. Yes? No?
And, what's the "legacy media" working on? Why another Bin-Layden, laying an egg, tape. Will it contain anima-tronics of Castro?
I'm just saying the left's got a lot of dead wood laying around.
So, I suppose, for them, Bin Lay-din's shit is worth another pass around the table?
Gee. I wonder if he'll brag about London. And, Glasgow. It's not as if those events have been forgotten, have they?
And, what about what's really happening in Irak? Seems the Soddies haven't made more friends in that country, have they?
And, then there was that weird piece, this summer, up at Iraq the Model. Where Omar wrote about his travails. He had spent money and time, arranging his own ticket out of Irak, for a few years. At a US university. For a post-graduate degree. But our Embassy in Baghdad didn't get his Visa. Instead? Omar was told to fly to Amman, to pick his Visa up in Jordan.
And, the Sunnis went and locked all the exit doors!
Hear me out. In Irak, the Sunnis were responsible, at first for the terror. And, then? Well, about half the Sunnis packed up and left. Leaving the dodo birds in parliament to dance "diplomatically," tap, tap, tap. And, then they went on vacation for the summer.
While Maliki is working at divvying up the real prize. The oil revenue money that flows. You didn't know it's flowing?
I didn't know the Sunnis were becoming persona-non-grata in Irak. Of course, if Jordan makes it impossible to land at their Amman airport; without being herded by cops into a room. Where all the papers spend about 48 hours being stamped AND REJECTED. To the point, these traveling Iraqis gotta return home. In soiled underwear. Etc.
Oh, well. Bin Laden must have spent a lot of time in front of a video camera.
Perhaps, all we're getting are old cuttings, from the out-takes?
You want me to take him seriously?
I don't take the Bonkeys seriously anymore.

Until he sits around reading his favorite paper, the NYTimes, where I can clearly see the date he's dead.
Let me see if I got this right. Every other loser over there is frequently on video but old bin, camera hog that he used to be, shows up years apart with very questionable videos. Hmmmm.........

He's dead. Period. 'nuff said.

Check at the Beard Club for Men. Joe Biden's hair plugs had to come from somebody.
If Osama bin Wacko hasn't dropped by lately the dirt nap is probable. The dog bowl worn in each photo may be the same, however.

Osama's friends know the weakness of US is a drooling media ready to bath in enemy propaganda and
a Democratic leadership invested in defeat.

Oh come on. How hard would it be for Al Qaeda to find a double? Hitler, Stalin and Churchill had doubles...how much easier is it to find an Arab and stick a beard and headdress on him? I mean really. It's about as hard as finding a Groucho Marx in character double. By the way, has anyone heard from those fun loving guys in ZZ Top lately? Maybe they're moonlighting....the beard looks familiar, you know....

So this retarded, syphlitic ape took a minute off from violating goats to babble on camera?
What would be great is if his silly little video was totally ignored, instead of being breathlessly discussed by nitwits on TV.
I couldn't possibly care less what Mr. Goat Sodomizer here has to say. Or what what the idiots on TV have to say about his little video.

I wonder what the experts on age regression (or is that progression), whatever) will have to say after watching this video? I hope all involved wind up looking like fools.
Posted by Adjoran | September 7, 2007 12:15 AM
The videos and tapes of bin Laden are all clearly identifiable as to time frame, so the claim he is dead requires substantiation.
Posted by flyer70 | September 7, 2007 1:11 AM
Since it is only a still shot, has anyone considered that maybe his beard's been Photoshopped because he's really dead?
Posted by niccolo | September 7, 2007 3:23 AM
A number of years ago there was testimony by two defector bin Laden henchmen that Osama had died at the seige of Tora Bora, cut off from medical assistance when his medical (kidney?) problem flared up. They said his staff (they were part of it) took him out of the cave they were using and buried him not far from the cave mouth.
The burial party was wandering off (contemplating their own end, probably) when we slammed a thermobaric bomb into that very cave mouth, covering Osama's grave with about 20 feet of busted rock.
Deception has been an important part of warfare since the beginning. In the runup to the Normandy landing, IIRC Eisenhower had 11 doubles, Montgomery had 6, and Patton had 35. I forget how many Churchill had. It's likely Osama tapes and videos have been done by a double since the beginning. Thus the intel confidence that they've been done by the same person. Looks like something befell the original standin, and they had to bring in a backup. Looking just like Osama has its hazards.
Intel is never a 100% thing: it's always a kinda sorta maybe thing.
Is he long dead? Probably. Is it in the interest of the western world to foster the illusion he's alive? Yes. Is it in the interest of the Jihadi world? Yes.
But remember, we're not talking about the Jesse James Gang here (kill Jesse and it's Game Over, Thanks for Playing). The Third Great Jihad has been devolving to smaller and smaller units, fragments of the original network (though some tendrils persist), less and less effective, easier and easier to interdict.

"He's dead, Jim."
If that mother f***er was still alive, he'd be SURE to hold up a copy of his favorite paper, the NYT, to prove it. Talk about thumbing his nose at the Great Satan!
But let's assume he IS alive. Does it matter?
Yes, to some extent. After all, he's the beast who masterminded and ordered the murder of 3000 of our fellow citizens in one day. Killing him would be justice. It would also stop him planning / ordering any more attacks. Finally, it would eliminate a terrorist icon and signal to all his horrid followers that the long arm of Uncle Sam will eventually reach them no matter where they hide.
But will it end the war? No, of course not. "Terrorism" is the tactic used by followers of a perverse and savage religion*. Unless and until we can stamp out that religion OR make it clear that the price to be paid for attacking the United States is WAY to high to be worth even considering, we will not end the war. By making it all about Osama, people miss the big picture.
---------
(*) Please note that Islam itself is not a perverse and savage religion. Unfortunately, there are those who follow a perverted strain of it that IS quite savage. Sort of like Fred Phelps on PCP.

But...but...the shyster says OBL didn't do it...
Posted by Ledger1 | September 7, 2007 6:31 AM
To “pre-announce" a video of OBL is very odd.
He never pre-announced anything.
With the power of Photoshop and the many hours of tape Al Jazeera has accumulated, anyone could make a cut-and-paste overdub tape.
I think it will be a total fake.
Posted by ahem | September 7, 2007 7:16 AM
It's probably a signal.

I love how Republicans suddenly decide that "it doesn't matter" that he's uncaught.
Suddenly ...they aren't so interested in law and order when their Failure in Chief is involved. Even if it means forgetting the lives of 3,000 Americans...nevermind. We don't need to catch him, and we never meant to indicate we did need to catch him. Justice? What's that?
You people read like a poorly written morality play.

Osama bin Animatronic?
and NoDonkey, you owe me a new monitor: I spewed coffee on my mine at reading the first line of your comment!

My guess is that the video is the signal for the cells in Denmark and Germany to execute their attacks. This demonstrates that AQ does not have the ability to coordinate their attacks or even monitor the readiness or status of their forces. AQ lacks an effective operational command and control capability. In part this is a result of loose structure of a terrorist or irregular warfare fighting force but it is also an indication of damage done to AQ over the last four years. The brains sitting in Waziristan have been severed from the limbs operating in the West. Once trained operatives leave Pakistan and move to their target locations they become detached from both control and support.
This raises questions about the recently release NIE on AQ which claims that they have rebuilt their pre-911 capability. If they cannot even stop the release of a signal tape after their cells are rolled up how can they effectively carry out complex operations? Of course we don’t know what we don’t know but if as I suspect there are no attacks this 9-11/Ramadan season then I believe that we have damage AQ far more then the Intelligence Community has assessed.

Timpundit says,
"Suddenly ...they aren't so interested in law and order when their Failure in Chief is involved. Even if it means forgetting the lives of 3,000 Americans...nevermind. We don't need to catch him, and we never meant to indicate we did need to catch him. Justice? What's that?
Timpundit, your post demonstrates the lefts mentality perfectly. Its not about "law and order", it’s about finding Bin Laden and shooting a hellfire missile up his ass. Justice will be killing him and his followers with extreme prejudice and leaving their bloating rotting bodies to bake in the sun for the buzzards and worms to eat. Al Qaeda and their like minded travelers need to be wiped off the earth as they have forfeited their right to live here. When they renounce their Jihad against Christians, Jews, Hindus, Buddhists and non-likeminded Muslims, then we can talk about law and order.
