Ensign Calls For Return Of MoveOn Money
NRSC chair Senator John Ensign calls for Democrats to return all campaign funds donated by MoveOn, after their despicable New York Times ad today accusing David Petraeus of treason. "If Senate Democrats are serious about moving our country forward, they will denounce this outrageous ad and return the campaign funds MoveOn.org has lavished on them as well as the donations made through MoveOn.org -- the choice is theirs." Ensign's right, but I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for the refund ...
Support The Al-Dura Petition
Roger Simon at Pajamas Media is circulating a petition to demand accountability for the discredited al-Dura report from France's Channel 2. This is, as Roger calls it, the "Father of all Fauxtography," and C-2 has never acknowledged its fault in airing the supposed murder of a Palestinian child. He wants C-2 to show all of the unedited footage of the incident in order to show that C-2 faked the murder. If they're resisting the demand, I'd say they have something to hide ....
There Goes The Undefeated Season
Notre Dame managed to get its first loss out of the way as soon as possible -- and as badly as possible. Georgia Tech came to South Bend and stomped the Irish, 33-3, in the worst home opener loss in school history. The offense fumbled twice and allowed seven sacks on Evan Sharpley, who must have longed to have Brady Quinn back on the field instead. If Charlie Weis doesn't turn this debacle around fast, he may want to start asking Ty Willingham for some career counseling ....
Would Early Primaries Allow More Donations?
Jim Geraghty at The Campaign Spot believes that candidates will benefit if primaries and caucuses get pushed into 2007. A loophole in campaign finance regulation appears to allow an extra $2,300 per donor for candidates if those elections are held this year. Be sure to check out Jim's analysis, and the surprising candidate that may benefit the most.
When Tom Met Jeralyn
One of the interesting aspects of politics is finding out that opponents are people, too. Jeralyn Merritt of TalkLeft met Rep. Tom Tancredo backstage at NBC's studios, and found him more likable than she had anticipated. Perhaps it was their mutual interest in Dog, The Bounty Hunter ...
Joe Lieberman A Right-Wing Nut?
That's what CAIR says, according to Joe Kaufman. He has a link to a CAIR official's blog post that calls Lieberman, along with John Bolton, former CIA director James Woolsey, and the Heritage Foundation's Peter Brookes as "extremists". Affad Shaikh also calls Dick Cheney a "fat bastard of a liar," apparently not meant as a pop-culture reference to the Austin Powers movies. (via Let Freedom Ring)

Cap'n Ed: She obviously still doesn't realize all of the implications of the scandal. Those donors may need the money for legal retainers. Someone had better start explaining it to her. Is it possible that no one at the Clinton campaign understands that this might be stolen money?
I think she understands that she, her dirtbag husband and almost all their sleazy minions got away with similar antics during the '90s, with the MSM providing gleeful cover (cue James Carville, please). Why on earth should she think that she won't get away with it this time?

Hillary best be careful here... these proxy donors are already at risk of being brought into a money laundering/RICO case. If Hillary's campaign returns the money only to have it re-gifted, not only does it not make it clean money, it could very well open the campaign to the same risk... she and everyone involved could be defendents in a money laundering/RICO case.
I say this as a non-lawyer who apparently has more common sense than the lawyers on her staff.

Hillary Clinton; meet the new media...
If Charles Johnson decides to investigate this scandal, Hillary will quickly find out just how the new media busted the slime bucket - Dan Rathers / Rathergate. Charles, if you're out there, get on this one ol' buddy... Give this slime bag hag her proper introduction to the new media. Bill Clinton laughed at the citizens of America, knowing dang well that the MSM would cover his back no matter how big the scandal; no matter how damaging to the country. Those days are gone, the new media is the new truth detector.
In the past few years, I have introduced hundreds of friends and neighbors to blog sites such as CQ. I'm sure you all have done the same. The word is spreading; there are several new sheriff's in town.

"Is it possible that no one at the Clinton campaign understands that this might be stolen money?"
They're well aware.
They're also confident that the MSM will spike this story. As long as the Dems are in charge of Congress and the media, nothing will happen.
The good news is that their control over both will come to an abrupt end in 2008. They're not counting on loss of control of the media due to the rapid movement of blogs making the media irrelevant, breaking the REAL news of the day to the whole world, such as our growing success in Iraq.
When the MSM fails to matter anymore, when the blogstorm brings the truth about Iraq to America, they'll toss the Dems out for good.

I hope you're right, but I don't see it happening that quickly. After all, the same thing was said in 2006, yet the "old" media managed to hand Congress to their people, by using the disgraceful actions of the Washington Post re. "Macaca", not to mention the Foley story, and faking polls (CBS was busted several times for oversampling Democrats by 14 points on their "polls")

Norman Yuan Yuen Hsu sat on the board of trustees of the liberal New School university in New York with former Loral Corp. head Bernard L. Schwartz, who was allowed to transfer restricted satellite and missile technology to a People's Liberation Army front after contributing a record amount of cash to President Clinton's 1996 campaign.
Last November, Schwartz and Hsu chaired a New School banquet at the Mandarin Oriental in New York which featured Sen. Clinton as keynote speaker. Clinton steered a $1 million federal grant to the college.
More recently, Schwartz and Hsu appeared together at the New York Yacht Club for Democratic Rep. Patrick Kennedy's 40th birthday bash...
All told, 22 Democrat donors were convicted in the Chinagate probe, which the Justice Department officially closed a few years ago.

Hillary campaign was notified in June of suspicions about Hsu. The party official passed Cassidy's concerns to Samantha Wolf, who rejected them.
On June 20, Cassidy sent an e-mail directly to Wolf.
"I am more than ever convinced that a man claiming to be a big fundraiser for Hillary Clinton is running a Ponzi scheme," he wrote. He said he feared that an associate "may lose her home" because of her participation in the scheme and cautioned Wolf that Hsu may be "using your good name in vane."
Cassidy said Wolf did not respond to the e-mail warning.

Under a million-dollars, isn't a lot of money to Hillary.
And, the aparatus she's running, to get the 2008 Bonkey nomination; has run into "AN INSIDE JOB!"
You can't fool me.
Hsu is the bait. And, he got caught; in spite of his $2-million bond. (Which is forefitted now, just the same.)
And, his capture?
It didn't sound to you like he "wasn't traveling alone?" Somebody could'a given him bottled water that had medications in it, that made the man flip out. Flip out, he did.
Now, how do set up's like these get played out?
Can Hillary still hold onto her lead?
Perhaps, only because you're focussed on Obama; you think she's a shoo-in. Hsu out. (Hsu is pronouned "shoe.")
We're just watching this stuff in slow motion.
Once the Internet got the upper hand; what the enemy-media does ... is build their fires with very little smoke. They attempt to harness the news ... and, the tidbits are theirs.
Often, they are then just over-run.
What's behind a distaste for Hillary?
Hmm?
Isn't it possible, if you know of your own gut reaction; that this would be "common-place?" Common enough that it doesn't just affect people way off on the right.
If you were stuck in the enemy-media; and you saw how DRUDGE# built his case against Clinton. (Because ... yada, yada, yada, "the powers that be" spiked Isakoff's story). Where would you be now?
You're in the midst of lots of silence, friends. In other words? The whole BDS dialog's gone out the windah. As you can tell, when you look to see people showing up at the Code Pink parades. And, then don't! NOT EVEN DRAWING CROWDS IN SAN FRANCISCO.
How do I know? Charles Johnson, of Little Green Footballs, ran the post. And, the photos. My computer did the rest.
Does my jaw drop open? No. But my anger levels at the freaks in DC. And, those communists that support them, grows and grows.
Check your garden when you see the flowers bloom. Because you get lots of growth without any noise at all.
What's my proof that "something's up?" Well, I saw the quick moves that took Howie Dean, who had connected well with the Bonkey base; and tossed him overboard. Off. The nomination stage. (As if John Kerry was a better choice!)
Hello. Since John Kerry wasn't a better choice. And, since Obama isn't gonna bring revenge fantasies to life. Alas, the blacks will have to make do with OJ's jurors ...
What's probably going on is not getting reported.
Not that you have to teach enemy-media journalists to shut up. For a time, folks, they couldn't even spell L-E-W-I-N-S-K-Y. Who knew the President got pizza deliveries, late at night? To the Oval Office. Who even knew Monica could be successful? You'd donate, if she turned around, and whipped out her jockey strap?
One of DRUDGE'S funniest lines, (from back then), is that the first lady didn't know!
So, I'll repeat that.
The most striking things happen in her house, and she doesn't find out about it at all.
No one wants to tell her she'll get nominated when pigs fly.

Toledo Blade is already spinning this as:
"This isn't an example of the moral or ethical failings of Democrats; it's an example of the failings of a campaign-finance system that makes it necessary for candidates to come up with literally hundreds of millions of dollars to become president."
We need public financing! (NOT)
Posted by Bennett | September 12, 2007 7:00 PM
Who in their right mind would want anything to do with this money? She'll take it back if they can show it came from their own bank accounts originally? That's step one in money laundering, Senator. Take dirty money and start the cleaning process by depositing it in an otherwise legitimate bank account. The deposit proves absolutely nothing about the original source of the money.
And she can't need this money that bad. Brazen, totally brazen. Some cojones!
And I don't know how soon this story is going to fade. It depends a little I think on just exactly who Rosenman's investors are and how willing they are to eat this loss. $40 Million is a lot of green. Unless Rosenman is in a position to cover this out of his own pocket, I'd have to think there will be some civil suits in here somewhere. He gets sued, maybe he has a new and different story to tell.

She is utterly lacking in moral character.

If they return the money, some of them may violate finance laws. Not to mention, that if Hsu stole the money and gave it to these people to donate, they may be tempted to keep it. It is found money for them.

The HSU crime (ChiCom) money is a drop in the bucket compared to the millions of dollars in stolen money passed to the democrats by another wanted criminal, Soros, and MoveOn.org. Ask the French where he got his money. Better yet, send him to France and see when or if he comes back. There is a prison cell waiting for him and it's all about stolen millions. Convicted criminal on the run, adopted by the democrats just like Hsu. Slick and Shrillary have been (known) criminals for over 30 years and still the 'democrats' in this country bow and kiss their a**. Posted by Proud Kaffir | September 12, 2007 8:09 PM
This is not "stolen money".
In the past, the Dems to took large soft money donations which has now been made illegal. Nonetheless the Dems still are taking in large chunks of money. They simply have laundered the money from their wealthy benefactors through several third party "average citizens" under this so-called Ponzi scheme. They want to now claim that Hsu was conning the investors but he was simply laundering the capmpaign contributions.
Posted by Darkmage | September 12, 2007 8:42 PM
I agree with PK. This is laundered money, not stolen money. Other than over-the-limit contributions from wealthy donors, it's possible a good portion of this money is courtesy of Red China. But stolen? Probably not.

The amount of money Norman Hsu raised for the Democrats continues to be a mystery. Just like the source of all this political cash and the reasons behind his purchase of access to the top Democrats in the country.
Originally, reports put Hsu’s contributions to all campaigns at something like $600,000. Originally Hillary’s campaign decided to give about $23,000 to charity, this being the amount they claim that Hsu gave directly. They have now upped the ante to $850,000.
Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton's presidential campaign said Monday it will return $850,000 in donations raised by Democratic fundraiser Norman Hsu, who is under federal investigation for allegedly violating election laws.
Clinton, D-N.Y., previously had planned only to give to charity $23,000 she received from Hsu for her presidential and senatorial campaigns and to her political action committee, HillPac.
The FBI is investigating whether Hsu paid so-called straw donors to send campaign contributions to Clinton and other candidates, a law enforcement official said Monday.
All of a sudden the Clinton camp blows past the $600,000 discussed by the media. And then of course there are the contributions to the dozens of other prominent Democrats.
Before this is over the “hundreds of thousands” figure that is frequently quoted will have grown to millions.
From the WSJ:
A Wall Street Journal analysis of campaign finance reform records has linked Mr. Hsu with at least $1.8 million in donations to Democrats since 2004.
I confidently predict that number will go much higher.
Which bring us back to the question, where did Hsu get the money and why did he give it to the Democrats? Why is it important to this Chinese swindler to have Hillary in the White House and Democrats running the country?
Posted by redherkey | September 12, 2007 9:10 PM
It's unlikely that Rosenman's firm would have invested $40 million in Hsu's company without rigorous financial controls, audits and other disclosure requirements. No accounting nor audit firm worth any merit today would permit the attestation of Rosenman's financials in such significant investments without full transparancy into the Hsu investment.
While it's possible Rosenman's fund completely escaped oversight (at which point his investors are absolute fools and deserve an investigation into their involvement in this racket, his accountants and auditors deserve lengthy jail sentences, and he should serve out the rest of his life in a cell with Bernie Ebbers), it's highly unlikely this is a case of unprecedented mismanagement. It's also extremely unlikely that Rosenman would have expected any other use of the funds than the eventual contribution of his funds to Democratic recipients (plus some expense money for Hsu and his lifestyle). What the donation was to buy should be the interesting part of this story and would earn an ambitious reporter a certain Pulitzer.
Regarding the lack of interest in the news media in investigating these matters, their day of reckoning is coming. Corporate America has been saddled with Sarbanes-Oxley, GLBA and numerous other regulatory controls which the media was implicit in the regulatory process. If the media continues its own uncorrected corruption, it will certainly face its own regulation and external oversight in the very near future. Already there is some interest in professional certification requirements for journalists, educational standards and requirements for the journalistic practice, and punitive measures for those who violate ethical and professional standards.
In other words, if the media can't self-regulate, controls that are less favorable will be imposed upon them from outside.

From the security perspective for Senator Clinton, who is letting wanted criminals up close and personal with the Former First Lady. Does anyone vet who gets to come to the fund raising events, who gets to stand beside and have their picture taking. It seems that professional security would have tipped off Sen. I have no significant doubt that the Clinton campaign folk know far more about this money's origins than anyone else shniffing around for a story. I can't imagine that they negotiated the payments (and whatever quid pro quo is to come with them) and assited Hsu in the donation distribution scheme without knowing where the money was from.
They are only concerned with getting the money into such a form that it can go into the campaign coffers and be spent on the campaign. That there is a problem now only shows that there is a bit better scruitiny of funds than there used to be when the Clintons were previously doing this sort of thing.
